The Great Salt Lake???

Today was rather low key. We started out in Green River, Utah which looks like this:
On the way today, we went up in the world(OK in altitude) and saw more forested scenery like this:
And then we arrived at Salt Lake City, and saw this:
Which left all of us speachless and inquisitive. The Great Salt Lake is like nothing we have ever seen before. The "sand" up to the lake is like a kind of dirt/sand with a salt crust over the top. Crunch, crunch, crunch it goes when you walk across it. Where we stopped, the water was so far away from the start of the "beach" area.
This is a picture from the water's edge to where we parked. See in the middle of the picture, there is a white or light rectangle in front of the mountains? That is a 3 to 4 story building by which our car is located.
And this is from the water's edge looking out over the lake. A big body of.....salt water.
We spoke to a native to here who had been out east. He said he couldn't get over the trees, EVERYWHERE. We told him we had definitely noticed the lack of trees here. There really are not that many deciduous trees out here.
We're staying in Salt Lake two nights which will be quite a treat. We have been packing up every morning, loading the car, and driving every day for 11 days now. So we'll have an easy morning tomorrow - woohoo!
